Hello! My name is Madeline Cheng, and I am a junior at Northwood High School with a lifelong passion for science, particularly biology, neuroscience, and immunology, and a deep commitment to expanding access to STEM education for students from underserved and historically marginalized communities.

While I have been fortunate to be able to pursue my passion in these fields, I have seen that many students, especially those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, face limited access to STEM resources and enrichment outside of school. To address this gap in science extracurricular opportunities, I founded STEMSpark in partnership with Benjamin, a fellow high school student and Garden Grove local, to bring free, hands-on, inclusive science learning directly into students’ own communities.

Through STEMSpark!, we design and lead lessons using low-cost, everyday materials to provide early science exposure and enrichment. Our mission is not only to teach scientific concepts, but to help students recognize that science is accessible to them and a space where they belong, allowing them to develop their passions!

Founder & President

Hi! My name is Benjamin Martinez, and I am a senior at Garden Grove High School. I have always had a passion for science, specifically been interested in physics and mechanical engineering. I have always wanted to assist in expanding students' knowledge of science, as many people did not have the same opportunities as I did to learn. That is why I partnered with Madeline to help expand STEM opportunities to local schools.

With the STEMSpark program, we create insightful and easy-to-construct experiments to complement our lessons on core scientific concepts in order for students to receive a hands-on experience and early exposure to science enrichment. I hope to raise students up and spark a curiosity in them for science so they can push forward with their learning!
